Eligibility Guidelines

In our 30 years of funding, we have been most interested in supporting new approaches to working with young children.

New organizations that do not have access to traditional philanthropic dollars were encouraged to apply, as well as established organizations proposing new projects.

We considered projects affecting young children from birth to 8 years of age in low-income communities and projects offering family support in the prenatal period and beyond.

Only organizations serving the residents of Alameda or Contra Costa counties have been eligible. All applicants had to have non-profit 501(c)(3) status or be able to affiliate with such an organization.

Grants were not ordinarily made for general operating support, loans, scholarships, support for individuals, or large capital expenditures such as development and purchase of land or buildings.
